I bought a metal halide off wayne on sunday ,you know a real dodgy fella anyway the live rock has started to turn brown and a small like bubble fillament attaches itself to the rock ,is it because of a high nitrate level, the lights are too close its driving me up the wall as i have had it before everything is fine in the tank and i have a sump permantly lit with good algea growth?

Whats the kelvin rating of the bulb and hopw old was the one it replaced?

What is your nitrate level?

It could be down to insufficient water turbulence.

The bulb is new and 20.000 kelvin, the halide is 4 inches above the water.

sounds like a CYCLE lol,

the algae will build up and then die down when the clean up crew gets to it you have addded live rock and created a new mini cylce wich your tank went through origanally
