linda whats the ammonia level like as during spawning it tends to rise , also most carp do stop feeding, or feeding heavy when they are spawning , sometime you go fishing and can see loads but they wont take a bait because they are breeding |

the females in my pond will generally stop feeding for a while after spawning, if your not 100% what the problem is, i usually net the fish in question and take it to the lfs and have it scraped to make sure it has no parasites etc |

Sounds normal
More than likely scar tissue (necrosis of the outer epidermis)
Dont forget the leather carp has no scales so more noticeable.
I have a pair of lemon goldfish that are due to spawn. The female has turned almost white since becoming gravid. More nutrient have gone into egg production.
Im feeding live daphnia and good quality dried foods to get the colour back.
Its a tough time if your a female fish that has spawned. The same principle applies to commercial growers of Tilapia (food fish). The males dont use as much energy for reproduction and so more energy goes into normal growth and muscle. Means they tend to grow faster than the females and so quicker to the fish market. |
