Hi, i am seriously considering the move from cichlids to marine.
I would like to ask for some general advice please
I have a 450lt juwel vision tank with a eheim pro3, eheim pro 2, seio 820, large powerhead and a UV Steriliser.
so... in the filters are bio balls and filter wool, will i need new media or can i use the existing and if new media is required is the alfagrog ok ??
I was thinking ocean rock plus about 20kg of live rock, would this be sufficient to support fish and inverts ?
Does the UV Steriliser need to run continious ?
Any links to good sites for advice and tips would be appreciated also |

you will need at least 45 kgs off liverock for good filtration as it work at about a kg off liverock for every 10 liters off water |

Thanks for the replys. I guess i may need some spare cash
I have started browsing the web sites suggested.
How many seio 820's would i need for the 450lt tank ? I have 2700lph turn over with the 2 eheims.
The cichlids are two very healthy adult oscars, jack dempsey and a convict plus a large silver shark and a large clown loach. |

I wish someone had told me this would need lots of spare cash no going back now !!
Even had to buy a booster pump for RO unit
So does anyone want a silver shark and a clown loach cheap, they look lonely in the tank |

RO water is not essential - I ran my fish only marine tank using conditioned tap water for ages. RO water for topups is best, but not essential.
A skimmer also is best but not essential - without one will reduce the number of fish you can keep per gallon, and will also increase the need for water changes.
Best single tip from me is get as much live rock as you can afford, then some more.
Then stock slowly and lightly. |

Have you ever used any medication in your tank?
I know that marine inverts are very sensitive to copper medication.
Agree about the live-rock, get as much as you can, but not ocean rock. |
