i have a 150 litre tank with discus and other comunity fish

im replacing a broken fluval 304 filter but am torn between what filter would be best?

either eheims 2224 professional that will treattank upto 250 liters at 700 liters per hour?
( my consern with this filter is it only holds 3 litres of filter media!)

or the biggest Ecco 2236 filter at tank upto 300 litres at a 600 litre per hour having a nice 5 litre filter media area( great if i have to add peat or nitrazorb pads etc)

The 2224 does have space in the bottom to put things like that in and is a good filter i use it on my discus tank (55 gallon) along with the juwel internal

well after the wife bought a pro 2224 that turned out to be broken on the corner closing catch!!! i looked on the net last night after the shop said they had the 2236 in stock but not a replacement for the pro!

i must say i was a little dissapointed in the media compartment on the pro filter being so small!!! my old filter the fluval had double the media size.......after alot of humming and arrrring the wife collected the Ecco and im well pleased!

ok its 100 liter per hour less flow and doesnt have the quick push in pipes with flow controlers! but it does have a great volume for media 5 liters !!! and a superb priming handle that locks in place and serves as a carrying handle.with 3 year garrantee over the pro's 2 year!

all in all its a very basic filter at a cheaper price

im very happy !!!

and tel is that what the gals say to you?

yes Danny but what determins the best?

in my opinion a filter with the wording PROFESSIONAL should be better than one called ECCO!
But what makes a filter the best?
the flow of the pump? size of the canister? the avalable space for future media options?

PFK did a review a while a go. I have Fluval 405's, I know people prefer others, but I've not had a p;roblem with them. Cheapest place I hace seen them is Pets @ nHome believe it or not
