How many fish could I keep in Rena 440 litre, I have two Oscars with two Uarus and a plec. Would it be possible to add a couple of ground feeders, are there any that would work well. I want to have more scavingers at the bottom to clean the *** up. Have you guys got any sugestions? |

To be honest it will be over crowded when the fish get bigger. eventually it would be good to just keep either the oscars or the uaru's and perhaps a plec.
While they are small you could go with some pims like 4 lines or Ornatus. Or a few Synos - Occelifer and notatus are nice.
But bare in mind that the won't clean/eat the poo up. So you will have to feed them as well andthgis will add to the amount of waste in the tank.
If you are having problems with *** on the bottom of the tank I would suggest it is alreadyover stocked - or you need to increase your filteration/maitanance.

There is not much of a problem with the ***, but I would like a bit more action at the bottom of the tank, cleaning up anything loose at the bottom would just be a bonus. Filtration wise im using two tetratec 1200's and a fluval 4 + so I think it is sufficient. |

But how often are you cleaning the gravel/doing tank maintenance? I apreciate your point about the filtration, but Oscars are particularly messy eaters and Plec's can produce a lot of waste as well, hence the comments from Rob and Paddy |

When I change the water once a week, I tend to remove all the ornaments and distube the substrate to allow all the waste to appear so that I can remove it with a syphon hose, so I dont think it is that bad. Any suggestions too improve my routine though would be greatly accepted. What are other people cleaning routines, I would like to get some other ideas. |

do you use a gravel syphon pump?if not get one they work well, you can get battery operated ones or a fitting that fixes to a drill to do the syphoning for you if you dont fancy sucking on the pipe |

My point was really not a dig at your routine - more the fact that Scavangers will not clean up anything really.
So add some more Ground Cleaners, but do not expect the ground to be any cleaner (if that makes sense) |

I have a large Silver shark and a large clown loach that do a great job of cleaning up and left over food the oscars spit out. They won't clean up any poop that is dealt with by 2 x stream pumps blowing it down the far end of the tank and into the Fluval fx5. Water is very clear and nitrates are under 10ppm. 30% water change done weekly |

lots of people talk about "vacuum" the gravel, well this depends on the set up, if you have a boring tank without much decor its easier to "vacuum" as there isnt much in the tank, if you tank your tank nicely set up with rocks etc, its harder |

DDUCK do you have any pictures of your setup. How have you place the pumps to blow away the debris. I am very interested. |
