Hi, I got great info from here earlier I thought I would chance my luck and give it another go!
The water in my tank is always murky, i have done water changes, the filter is fine, i dont have 2many fish, the gravel was clean when i put it in and i am not over feeding. oh and my tap water is fine. I have tested my water with the ph gizmo and it says it is fine, still its murky, any clues? |

what do you filter through ? do you have any new bog wood in the tank that could be leeching into the water?
a bacteria boom/bloom? |

not sure what the filters are as came with tank (jewl) i know that there is different sponges in the filter black, green 2 blues and a white. tank set up for under a month, have bog wood but it is from my old tank so it should be ok. |

The black one is a carbon sponge which you should change every month or so. Also, when you are doing your tank maintenance, don't rinse off all of your other filter sponges as this will destroy your filter good bacteria. Simply choose one of the filter sponges every couple of monthe, and clean (not thoroughly) in a bucket with some of your old tank water.
Reading your post and the fact that the tank has only ben set up for a month, it will still possibly be 'cycling' (google it) and the water may still not have matured. Have you tested your water parameters? Post what they are (Nitrate/Amonia/nitrite/PH) |

You need to get yourself a test kit, the mulit API test kit is a good one and is only £18 at pets @ home, as testing is quite important normally, but crucial in seting up a tank. Also, need to get some good fish books, best bet is to nip to the library, or simply to browse the web on tank set up/cycling (google or ask.co.uk) |

you can clean all filter media, but NOT in TAP water, as nick said use the TANK water when you do a weekly water change, just rinse em in the bucket... |

i have put a second filter in my tank and have noticed no diff, i know that this is not the best idea but thought it would at leas rule out filter fault. |

Dont try and use activated carbon to try and solve it as this will leach phospates into your water. it may help clear it but then at a later date you will start getting algae from excess phosphate levels.
Get yourself some hagen greenx to add to your filter that removes nitrite, nitrate and phosphate (this will help get your tank into balance) and put some filterwool in at the last point of filteration, and this will help clear your water as your tank is still maturing |

A sceond filter would need a few weeks to seed with beneficial bacteria. Glad to hear all is well though |
