Its upsetting when you loose great fish!
as a few people know i have had a few problems with the wifes Oranda goldfigh.
the last Oranda in the a 36x15x12 tank, eheime 2213 external and fluval 3+ internal filters
with 2 japonica?(Shrimps) and 2 Hongkong stream Plec as tank mates.
Monday fish was swimming fine!
tuesday one eye swollen ( white ring around the eye).did a water change!
wednesday both eyes swollen and fish staying on bottom of the tank.Treated with a Myxazin+vitazin(anti bacterial and vitamin addative)and a little salt
thursday both eyes had inprooved however one compleat side of the fish showed like Dropsey( scales at almost 90degrees to the body) some scales missing on the side just behind the gill and what looked like blood around the gill and fin!!! the other side looked normal!!! the fish was swimming near the top of the tank!
i set up a small hospital tank using 50% tank water and increased with fresh de-clorinated water, added some esha 2000 that says its for open woonds, dropsey, and anti-bacterial.
the fish was dead in no more than 10 minutes!!! |

Any ideas on what went wrong?
i have had the eye problem with fish in the past and the protruding scales that apear over nigh!!! i have treated the previous fish in exactley the same way as this and they improoved for weeks!
could it have been the shripm? picking at a poor fish ?? strange it was only the one side efected |

Check the inlets on your filters, I had an ssue a year ago, both inlets became blocked (not visually) and I lost some great denison torpedo barbs as well as some large congo's. When I finally got to the bottom of it, the inside ball stop in the inlet tube blocked on both inlets, killing the filter bacteria resulting in water qualitt detereation and the poisoning of the fish.
I used to always take the inlet cover off to clean off the devris, but never thought (and it didn't mention in the instructions) to take the inlet end piece apart to ensure there was no blockage of the flow ball valve
Gutted, but wiser.... |

it doesnt sound like you have done much wrong? fish can carry diseases for years (like humans)and it is only when thr fishes natural defences are low that the disease takes a hold sometimes we can help sometimes not |
