Im setting up a water storage tank to make my water easier to change.

I want to stop using Tetra Aqua safe. I dont need RO as my water is fine, and im only breeding guppies.

Do i need a HMA filter to get rid of the chlorine? Someone once told me to run a air stone through the water for 24 hours and then you can use the water.

Is this correct?

HMA filters will get rid of chlorines but I am no expert on breeding guppies and their requirements. Not too sure as to the need for storage as I have sufficient length of pipe to reach from HMA unit to my tanks. I do twice weekly water changes on a 650ltr and 260ltr tank and my breeding tanks and never have any problems. But like I say, I do not breed guppies and you will know better than I as to if you need storage prior to using

as far as i know the airline method works ......

HMA filters will remove heavy metals without lowering your Ph etc, they dont produce waste water Unlike Ro units !

Airline works for chlorine but it wont for chloramine and it wont bind heavy metals.

Thanks
Mark770 - how fast will the water flow through the HMA filter. I only thinking storage becuase im under the impression it would take ages to get water.

I would only need about 50 litres at a time.

Mwilde i think they run a hell of alot faster than a RO because they have no real rejection rate!

its intresting to hear from people that use them to get exact litre per hour flow rates

i might ask father christmas for one ......no i havent started a list yet

Hi,

you get a slowish flow but as mentioned above no waste. I go through approx 100litres in about 45 mins to 1 hour which works quite well as the water temp in your tanks will not drop too much. Sorry about the delay in reply. RO man is a good place but also most discus suppliers are just as competitive price wise. People like Chris @ Plymouth discus are very helpful and knowledgable (link on this site under discus pages). IMO you should not need storage for 50 ltr and you should get that in about 30 mins depending on water pressure and also the state of the filters themselves (obviously not an issue with new filters). Just a tip, run the water and discard this for at least 30 mins before using for the first time as this clears the filters of any dust and general nastiness that builds up in storage

Thank you everyone for your help.

I ended up contacting loads of people. I decided to stay with a HMA filter, rather than RO, as i want the water changes to be automatic. With RO i would have to to readd salt. ROMAN was very helpful.

However...

GBDISCUS was also veru helpful and even spoke to me on the phone and explained the best ways to do it all. So i bought a HMA from him.

Im now just waiting for it.

I received my HMA filter today. I was suprised how big and heavy it was.

I thought it would be a big job to fit, however it took a matter of seconds. The flow rate is also much quicker than i imagine.

Overall im well happy. Wish i would have got one ages ago, instead of using aquasafe.
