Is it a particular type of paint that is used to paint the back of the tanks blue? |

nope
which ever blue takes your fancy
all i did was wipe the outside of the tank with meths ,let it dry and then painted it with blue emulsion(cant spell first thing in the morning)that i had lying about.it might take more than one coat and be careful as it scratches off very easy

i think the added advantage of emulsion would be it can easy be scraped off if ever you wanted to sell the tank?

I have used black matt metal paint on all my tanks. Works a treat, i wouldnt recommend emulsion as i think it could flake of to easily over time and look nasty.
Matt gives a much better finish than gloss |

definately emulsion - easier to scrape off if need be!!! |

Which ever paint you use, DONT get it on the silicone joints, as it will degrade it quite quick, apart from emulsion which is water based. |

You can get the blank backgrounds now, just got a blue/black reversable one. Failing that, I'd go for emulsion due to it being able to be cleaned off again |

Thanks everyone. Im not bothered about scraping it off, it would rather it stay on for ever without peeling etc. The tanks im having made are specifically for breeding.
However, im worried now after what trik put about degrading the silicone. Has anyone else had this issue. |

I dont think emulsion would affect the silicon as its water based, but gloss is solvent so I think will |
