I've got about x30 Moss Balls, some of them getting quite big now, one is about the size of a tennis ball, and some are nearly that big, especially at the back of tank. Do you think i need more moss balls or got enough?

Oh by the way peeps, one issue i had with this set-up is that in the morning when i put lights on, some fish was always at top, not quite "gasping" but still lapping up the oxygen, nothing like this during the day. Therefore i concluded that carbon dioxide at night was the issue due to so many plants and the plants doing really well. Initially i feared stocking levels were too high, but after really watching the difference in fish behaviour during the day and first thing in the morning, i sought some advice from other peeps and they thought the same (carbon dioxide at night quite high) so at night i increase the surface movement, to facilitate more oxygen and less carbon dioxide, the plants havent suffered and i no longer see any fish at the top in the morning.

Pope, i was here a long time ago, a time when the likes of Paul Owens was around, do you remember him, changed his name to Higgins after that, then vanished into thin air.

Hello Nick G, when i was last on here, you weren't or atleast i dont remember you my son!

Obviously not the one I thought then! Where you been hiding then? Great tanks though, really like the planted one and you have inspired me to add some red rock to my Tanganyikan tank, looks good

Thanks Mr G

What Tangs have you got, or have you got a thread on here with your set-up's?

21:31 by Fry Lover
i found your Tang thread, i am not sure about phosphate colouring your rock? I had the same problem, so i put my ocean rock tank further away from the window and put some BN Plecs in there.

Also, i soaked my ocean rock over night in a 5% bleach solution and mate, peeps said it wont work, it WORKED WICKED, my rock went from brown to almost white, without any need for scrubbing

And all you got to do with bleach is rinse it off, use extra De-chlorinator and re-soak it, then to be absolutely safe i left it by the windows for 24hrs as sun light on its own eliminates bleach apparently (if the bleach is out the water)

Its been about 5-6 weeks now and my Ocean Rock is still really nice, not dirty at all or coloured with algae

But, also, i only have my lights on for about 4-5 hrs a day MAX in that tank.

I'll give it a go mate. Had to empty my Tang tank, it was in the living room on wooden floor and had to have a new floor laid as one of the outlet pipes off one of the external's came off, spraying awter up at the hood which in turn went down the back of the tank on to the floor. Did it for a few hours as we were out at the time

Claimed on the insurance, so have had to move the fish into a temp tank in my garage and am going to re set up the main tank over the next few weeks (I'll put some pic's up when I have).

I have 4 Paracyprichromis Nigripinnis
4 Brevis shelldwellers
2 small BN's
1 Plec
5 lellupi (spelt wrong I know )
8 other fish (forgot what they are called, got it written down somewhere)
10 Brichardi (really want them to breed, but I find it hard to sex them)
1 Julli (again, got the exact type written down somewhere).

I recently thought about adding some malawi, I don't see it being an issue, even the Maidenhead guy who manages the shop said he has done this before.

While my tank is empty in the garage, I put the rock outside until I set it back up, and it is now white as when I first got it

I have set up some smaller tanks in my garage as a trial breeding project:

1 tank with male & female fighter
1 tank with endlers (my little girl loves fish that have 'babies'
1 tank with aggassi pair and a female krib (will get a male and seperate them when other tanks mature)
1 tank with a pair of shelldwellers in

I love Brevis my local Maidenhead has them, they look stunning, but are £10 each.

I had a 36" Brichardi set-up a while back (sold them to Telboy) they were breeding all the time, had a group of 5. This was reduced to 4 when the group decided they didnt like one of them.

I think its very difficult to sex Brichardi actually.

Glad I'm not the only one who thonks that. Been told that the males have the fin extensions, all look at have them, but the chances of having so many males and no females from2 different sources

The brevis are great, I agree, but I love all the other shell dwellers as well. They go for that amount up here as well, but you do occasionally see them for sale on here though for less. Really want them to breed as well, will give the offspring away if they do, hopefully make some other enthusiasts happy as a result

The brichardi can be mean moody little buggersm last thing you would expect by their royal colouring, but I think they look stunning amongst the rock work. The maidenhead near me is newly opened, I have been blagging the manager that there is no other shop in the are that majors in stcking tanganyikan's and he has said he is going to place a huge order as a result. Funny thing is that I have said the same to another shop and they are getting a load in as well Greeeeaat!!! Just need them both to agree to beat each others prices and then I truely will be in Heaven

Only think I disagree with is keeping Endlers and guppies together, but each to their own.

Nice tanks Lex.

thanks Rob, yeh i knnow what you mean about the Guppies and Endlers
09-09-2007
23:33 by Fry Lover
Rob C, you also kept Brichardi for a while didnt you?

If i could do that again, i would have them with Ocean Rock / Lava Rock (like my Malawi Mix tank) with a black background.

The only thing thats puts me off is the rather plain colouring, ideally i would have x2 different breeding groups of Tangs in there, but would be tricky perhaps

23:41 by -Rob C-
Yeh I did, it would look pretty good, mine had a mix of ocean rock and slate, which looked quite good. As you've said they are a bit dull, but it'd be near imposible to mix them with anything! I sold mine, but one baby was left in the tank without me realising. He's now got his own little tank.
