Hi,
I think my discus are trying to breed. The female is trying to lay eggs against the surface of my filter but the male seems to be eating the eggs as soon as they are laid. Is this normal? |

with discus and other fish it is normal, it sometimes takes them a few times to get it right, so give them time and theyll sort t out |

if you do a water change next tuesday evening 99% chance they will lay again on wednesday(if they have eaten all of this times effort)
it took a pair we have 30 times b4 they got it right
give them time they WILL sort it out |

Cool. If the discus are a pair, does it really make thier value go up? Also one discus is a kind of solid orengey yellow and the other one is solid blue. Does this mean that the fry will either be all blue or all yellow? Also is it really that difficult to actually breed them properly? I tried to post a vid of them in action but the site would not let me. Sorry. |

The left hand side of the fish will be yellow, and the right hand side will be blue. |

i think some yellow, some blue ........some yellow-blue mix (Green)
the green is a joke i believe some will be a mix of colour........however i have asked breeders before and they can not give me a exact answer |

cichlidrouse im sure its down to the quality of the fish that gives a high price.....not just that they have formed a pair! |

The fact that they are a pair will increase the value.
Also if they sucessfully raise fry, the value will be raised again. |

the quality helps alot
but if they are a true breeding pair that have raised fry the price does go up.we had a pair(only layed the eggs then they would eat them) that we paid £60 for now they have bred and raised fry the value of them has gone up 3 fold,i checked this with a breeder if i was to sell them they could fetch anything up to £200
there is a lot of money in discus
i have been offered between £5 and £8 for the young from them(thats from fish shops) bearing in mind that they had about 100 fry it works out at a lot of money(will pay for the electric for the shed for the year) |

true however there are alot of discus pairs around for £120
young would sell better from a same coulour pair than a mixed colour.
i hope they are a pair and produce babys for a little side income |

the ones we have are about 7.5 inches if not more in size,so are bigger than most you see in the shops
i will try to get a good pic of them(if the keep still long enough) |
