mmmm, could I make room for pedigree guppies AND bettas |
18-09-2007 14:26 by Ed

I think you have to start from scratch yanton as the actual fish you see in the pic have been pickled with every known chemical man knows. You are better off getting some wild guppies and start off your own programme as there will be then some resilience to diseaces, they sell the wild form at £10 for a 1000 which are now regarded as fish food buts thats where you can start off again with the wild ones. |
18-09-2007 15:11 by -Rob C-
|
Not completely true Ed.
Yes, most from the Far East will have been in every chemical under the sun. But ones from UK breeders are a lot better and a lot hardier. So it is be possible to get nice fancy guppies without having to start from scratch. |
18-09-2007 16:45 by yanton
|
wouldnt another dedicated guppy breeder or a member of the livebearers club be the best place to start? |
18-09-2007 17:02 by -Rob C-
|
Yes it would, there's plenty of forums that could put you in contact with a good breeder. |

Some of you in this thread are talking rubbish.
Where do you all think tropical fish come from. They are all originally imported. |
19-09-2007 12:54 by Ed
|
Yes imported a long time ago and the fish you can breed ie guppies ,chiclids and many more are only really imported if they are different such as balloon mollies ,electric blue dempseys and fancy guppies which makes them succeptable to everything . |
19-09-2007 23:23 by -Rob C-
|
Yes originally they are imported, at which point did anyone argue against that?
However, fish bred over here are far more hardy and should be less sucepptible to disease. |
20-09-2007 01:54 by Nick G
|
True, the ones that are factory bred for quick sale in to the uk cannot be compared to the ones that were originally imported as wild of F1 stock
British dedicated livebearer breeders vhave kept strains strong and do not factory breed in the same fashion as the cheap weak eastern imports, so no comparrison there
Not why we are talking rubbish in this thread though and most fish in the UK have been imported in some extent, pet and wild |

Thats excactly my point rob. |
20-09-2007 23:40 by -Rob C-
|
Agreed with you 100% Ed.
Mwilde, expand on your point please? I mean, it looks like your wrong to me. |

YOU CANT GET THE FISH OVER HERE!
All fish at some point are imported. The fish i wanted are not available in this country. I emailed all pubished members of the British Livebearer Association who do guppies and no-one had them.
So i paid lots of money and imported them.
Like i said lets agree to disagree becuase to be honest i wish i never mentioned it!
Im not going to keep going on about this now - im not that intrested in what some of you think - as you can probably tell im getting quite annoyed. |

mwilde, hello mate,ya seem to be taking this the wrong way!all folk on here are doing is trying to explain to you that you dont need to import most lines of fish nowadays as most can + have been bred in this country!which in turn makes them a hardier fish, as they're used to the different types of water conditions we have in this once great country of ours!granted, certain types you can't get here, for those you will have to import!i feel gutted for you that you've lost most of them, but i wouldnt have paid the vast amount you did for any fish let alone 8 guppies, but thats cos im a tight ol geet!anyway take a chill pill, learn by your mistakes + take the replys on here for what they are, other folks opinions,to which we are all allowed to have!good luck in your next venture... |
