you got your eye on any particular plants Wayne? You just want fast growing ones? Is this for a "show tank" kinda thing in your home?

and 600 neons? you tight git, is that all you can get?

well co2 is the what peeps add basically apart from ferts really, but for a 4x2x2 thats a pressurised system really i think you'll need.

So is a Halide a T5?

As for a 4x2x2 fully planted up, 150W isnt actually that much, as they go WPG (watt per gallon) for plant growth (US Gallon) and a 4x2x2 being 122 US Gallon (100 UK Gallon) you be left with only 1.2 WPG which is considered "low", i run my planted tank at about 1.8 WPG (x4 40W Bulbs, all with reflectors for a 48x24x18 tank which is 89 US Gallons)

God knows why its US gallons peeps always use, even in the UK on a lot of forums.

The WPG assumes you using reflectors.

Light levels above 2.0 WPG and your supposed to need co2 for sure

I use Seachem Flourish Excel as my fertiliser and its generally well regarded. I used to use Seachem Excel as a carbon supplement, but there's a bit of controversy as to how safe this is for certain types of plants, and it can be dangerous to some fish depending on dosage from what i hear.

As for substates, no idea? i just use normal sand, does peat really make a difference? I am not sure, in all these flashy planted tanks i see on forums and the plant experts speaking, no one says they using peat as a substrate. They often mention stuff like this

http://www.onlineaquariumstore.com/acatalog/Sera_Floredepot_4_7kg.html

http://www.aquaessentials.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=196

http://www.aquaessentials.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=194

in fact, i dont see anyone listing peat as their substrate on forums where they give out their specs for their planted tank, maybe peat is good though?

My own tactics are

-sand
- low surface movement during day to help keep whatever co2 i do have IN the water for the plants
- increase surface agitation at night, of my fish all end up gasping in morning doe to co2 rise during the night
-Seachem Ferts
- about 2 WPG (US) with reflectors
- heavily stocked with fish
- atleast 30% water change per week
- my lights are on for about 12-14 hrs per day, i dont have much grief with algae

also think about some Bristlenose Plecs, as you might get algae blooms in early days and generally speaking the feedback on most forums is BN plecs are plant-safe, most peeps say they only f*** up the plants if they got absolutely no other food source. I can testify to this, they are fine in my planted tank.

I wouldn't bother with clown loach - mines took a like to eating my plants

as for plants Edwards, i stick to my tried and tested "hard water, no co2" plants

Moss Balls
Onion Plants
Hygraphila
Java Fern
Annubias
Vallis
Amazon Sword
Riccia (floating)
Duck Weed

Fast growing plants like

Onion Plants
Hygraphila
Riccia
Duck Weed

are particularly good when you start, as they will out compete the algae

also, get yourslf a whole load of Java Fern if you can.

Wayne, you will need to aim towards 3wpg lighting, pressurised co2 jbl would be my prefered choice and a good substrate like the caribsea eco complete. I use biovert fertilizer but there are so many fertilizers for differant nutrients its way above me.

However the plant aspect is to vast and complcated for a forum like this and you are better getting advice from the specialised forums for plants.
