How much can I expect to pay for a large oscar, I have no idea what a reasonable price would be, any ideas people. |

Around £15 for the normal marbled strain, the bigger it is the cheaper it gets |

Worth very little to nothing as Hp says, shops get given them. I used to take them home and use them for dead bait pike fishing. |

i've got a thread similar to this, i am looking to purchase a nice 6-8" Oscar but i havent seen any in a while in the LFS?
I would be willing to pay up to £20-£30 for a nice one, looks like i might not have to then (pay that much)? |

i just took 3 5 inch oscars into my lfs and got £60 worth of fish in exchange , then paid £30 for a breeding pair (8 inch) two days later and got two (7 inch) today for nothing so it varies when oscars are concerned, good oscars are worth paying for and deserve better than to be used as bait |

fry lover, oscars are intelligent creatures and as with any such intelligent creatures they vary (lots)an oscar is usually safe with any fast moving fish it cant get in its mouth, buy one that has been on its own for a while(they like company ) or that has been in a mixed tank. if you have to pick from a tank of oscars dont choose the one being picked on, try one from middle of the heirarchy as it less likely to be aggressive.i have had oscars on and off for twenty years and love them (most of the time)p.s. dont get one smaller than your other fish they will just pick on him |
