Idea's for x1 Fish in this set-up |

The x2 Blue Acara's need to go, they too intense for the tank mates and as they are not breeding successfully i cant be bothered to be honest (would have put them in their own set-up if they been a proven pair)
Anyway, i am looking for one decent size fish (maybe purchase it at about 5-6" and it gets to a max of 12-14" tops)
Will be in a 48x22x20 (300 litre) for the time being, no doubt to be upgraded at some point in next 6 months or so, if i keep the x4 Bichirs and x2 Reed Fish together which i want to do.
Current tank mates would be
x4 Senegal Bichir, currently 4"
x2 Reed Fish, currently 5"
x1 Syno, currently 4"
Was thinking about an Oscar, but is that risking too much, in terms of aggression with other tank mates? Was kinda hoping one Oscar would be cool with them, but i guess its a risk?
Any other suggestions?
A peaceful(ish) Cichlid (x1)? any suggestions
An oddball type?
Like i said, looking to purchase at the 5-6" mark, and have something that will reach no more than 12-14" at its fully grown size.
London tap-water, so alkaline and hard, sand substrate, mixture of bog wood and rocks for decor
x2 Eheim 2028 as filtration |

if ya put a big oscar in with that lot they'll become a very expensive snack |

thats what peeps are saying, and i am a suprised, but i am glad i asked
But if i got a 6" Oscar how would it eat a 5" Reed Fish or a 4" Bichir?
By the time the Oscar got to 8-10", the Bichir's and Reed Fish would also be quite a bit bigger dont you think?

I use to keep an oscar in with corys believe it or not
All depends on the actual fish as there characters can be quite differant |

what about a pair of firemouths or a shoal of silver dollars |

|
Silver Dollars did cross my mind, but i think there would be some dietary implications, but its a tempting idea as they wont bother my other fish in there
As for Firemouths, potentially i would like some less aggressive cichlids like Firemouths, the danger would be if they form a breeding pair, i dont really want the aggro in this tank,
Thanks for your input, got me thinking |

I do love MBU's but wouldn't i be taking the pee putting one in a 48x22x20?
Obviously be cool if i do upgrade to a 6x2x2 or something.....
You got me thinking.... but it's also a heck of £££ committment, i think they are £70 for small ones in my LFS |

well i ended up getting x3 Pink Tailed Chalceus, they are about 3" at the moment. Predators, but according to the research i have done on the internet, usually okay with fish over the size of 1-2"

rare for them to be that size, especially 14"
most will not reach over 10" no matter what size aquarium they are in |

the above thread is about the same fish i have just purchased, from ages ago, turned into a big ruck though, but it was an interesting debate, i know the fish i have purchased are not Cigar Sharks thankfully!!!! I also got them from Wildwoods, so i am happy they are what they are supposed to be!!

If you wanted a cichlid a severum or a geophagine would do the job. |
