Posted Making my own tank (kind of)!!!!
03-10-2007

well, well..... i have managed to smash x2 Rio 300's in the last couple of months, one was already leaking and the other was perfectly fine (almost new)

What that leaves with me with, is lots of glass and panels from each tank.

One of the tanks has the base intact and back panel intact and one side panel. So it needs another side panel and a front panel (which i have in stock LOL)

I thought i might try and silicone the spare parts together and make a whole Rio 300!

But it then occured to me.... how the heck do you keep the "new" panels your siliconing "in" STILL enough to allow them to set.

And will i need x2 peeps to do it? Will Perky need to come round and stand there for 24 hrs holding the tank together for it to set?

Please, am seriously wondering how to make a tank out of all this......
PS - dimensions are 48" length, 22" height and 20" depth

If it dont work it dont work, i already have quite a bit silicone anyway

come n pick me up + ill do it for ya mate, but youll need new silicon as the old stuff will be on its way out, full of lumps etc, youll also need some gaffa tape
03-10-2007
23:04 by Fry Lover
i got a brand new silicone Tel, not opened yet, but i might need more i guess.....

thanks for the offer, do you fancy it this Sat (be afternoon or evening) or Sun? Or it can easily wait mate

Gaffa tape just from any general DIY store i guess?

What about Perky? Is there any useless contribution he might be able to make?
03-10-2007
23:06 by Fry Lover
i guess he could make the tea

People use spring clamps - you can get them from B&Q

It really is a 2 handed job though

Just scrap away the old silicone with a sharp scraper (Stanley knife blade type)

Run a small bead of new silicone down one edge, press up the panel and run your eye down to make sure there is no air bubbles. Smooth out the excess silicone with your finger.

Easy as that, use tape or a corner clamp to keep in place. or a mate

stanley blades often leave silicon and silicon dosnt like sticking to silicon use an american type razor blade they are so fine they will remove marker pen from glass, then clean the glass with meths before sticking it together

Yeah I know what you mean big cats

If the blade is sharp then no problems removing the old stuff.

Plus brown manilla paper card will remove any silicone residue along the terminal edges of the glass.

04-10-2007
19:02 by Fry Lover
So hows the Big Uaru doing? You happy with it? guess so.....

Sat could be a bit dicey anyway, what about we fix it in for next weekend? Either Saturday 13 or Sunday 14.

We'll get Perky to come round and tell a few jokes whilst we get on with the serious business.

PERKY - bring a mop and bucket just in case there is a disaster

UNCLE - so are all the RD's and JD's going to Wickford then?

What you gonna swap them for? Marine stuff?

My Dat is a

Indonesian Tiger Fish 'In Ni Hu', Indonesian Datnoid, IT
( Datnioides Microlepis )

i found out.

Mine's the spitting image of this one, without the tacky gravel

08-10-2007
11:45 by Fry Lover
well it's deffo a Micropelis, thats been established for me, but i remain unsure as to whether this is a Siamese Tiger Fish or an Indonesian Tiger Fish, conflicting info on Google

21:14 by Fry Lover
hello Alan

I would be interested as i've just set up a 24x12x15 Fry Tank, but my car requires sorting, although coming down on the train with my boy is a possibility.

I will get in touch if thats likely and see what you have left.

Any Cory young left?
