I have a problem with my Oscars, I was assuming they were both boys but recently they have spawned and a few times after that, but the eggs never hatch. The more dominent Oscar gets rather aggressive to not only the other tankmates but the other Oscar as-well WHO GETS QUITE SIVERLEY INJURED. I am thinking of finding the aggressive Oscar a new home and stick with one oscar and its tank mates, but would like to hear any advice that anyone can give me.

ive never kept oscars myself but i think im right in saying that a pair of femlaes will lay together, which would explain them being infertile

Ya thats what I thought aswell, however even though they are both chicks they are still being territorial toward the othe occupants. I think its best they are seperated.

the water needs to be good for the eggs to hatch, your male may be infertile (what strain is he)i am not being critical because you didnt know they were a pair but you cant have tankmates with a pair of any cichlids of this size (compared to most oscars are tame, try a pair of jags???) i love oscars but it can be very difficult to get a good pair, they will pair with normally unsuitable candidates if they have no choice and thats probably what has happened put them in a spare tank with a divider feed them well get temp to 83 f. once they stop trying to kill each other, may take weeks, remove the divider (but be ready to put it back)dont leave them alone for at least two hours, carry out a large water change with cold water and let nature take its course
