hi
its an ro unit
used for taking out all the *** in the tap water

sarah, normally the input comes from the tap, and pure water comes out the other end.

the water is prefiltered then pushed through a polythene type membrane where only pure water molecules can get through.

they are also used for domestic drinking water.

full name is a 'reverse osmosis' unit.

they are quite expensive, so if you dont want it you should be able to resell it.

Hose pipe will be no good as it wont fit the ro unit or the output hose of the ro unit.
Best thing to do is get yourself a container of some sort bigger the better to collect the filtered water as it will need to be re mineralised before it gets added to the tank

How old are the cartridges as they may need replacing, did you get a tds meter with it.

No theres no metre with it.It only seems to be one cartridge thing on it Keith.

saharajane have a little look on (the ro man site)

the filters are used if your keeping marine or discus and the water will need adjusting with addatives to make it more stable

all filters will need replacing if you plan on using it....would be around £30 depending on the litres per hour flow rate

dont sell it to cheap as the bottom perspex filter housings are a £10 each new pluss fittings.

Jane there are 3 cartridges, its a 3 stage ro unit. There is probabley a pre sediment filter followed by a carbon filter and then followed by the ro membrane, judging by the pic it looks quite dirty but without a tds meter to measure total disolved solids exiting the ro unit its hard to tell, its probably wise to replace them all.

also if youve got poor water pressure youll need to buy an add on pump...more expense
