Hi Guys im in need of some advice please.I've had fish for over 9 years now and always had Angels in with many other community fish and have always had pairs who give me the most pleasure when spawning only to find every time they eat them.In the past ive removed eggs but the have gone to fungi. So here we go again this morning I see their preparing my Ehuim inlet tube to lay on of all places and have considered taken the pair out once the eggs are laid and fertilized but only have the option o taking over to my parents tank.Is this something you'd do or will it be to stressful for the time until hatched. The other thing is.Is any of this worth my while as I have silver sharks and a red tailed shark.I'm on the other hand wandering wether just to let nature take its course and leave well along.I really would appreciate some advice and will take any suggestions on board but please don't come back with an argument or anything in regards to life and stuff if I can save these baby's I will do my upmost.

Hugs Sarah.

Hi,rearing angels is pretty easy but you will need extra tanks to rear them in.Trying to bring them up in a comunity tank is very difficult.

dont take the parents out and move them on such a journey, they are breeding in your tank because they are settled, You will have no joy with the other fish in the tank anyway, my suggestion is to set up a small tank and move the parents into this to lay, they have probably eaten the eggs due to the other fish in there, a tank on their own will give them the time to sort things out for them selves and you will be able to watch them better.

Thanks you Ray and Elmo im grateful.Thing is im just wishing to enjoy fish not really wanting to do the breeding thing as a mother of 4 kids im not wanting to see them eat their baby's but on other hand didn't want really to be setting up another baby tank. Would it be wrong of me knowing they may not survive leaving things to nature. I feel a bit of maternal instincts kicking in here.

ok guilt it to much lol im going in garage to look for baby tank.i wont be able to save this spawning section as theyve prepared the pipe already to lay.Are they ready at any time or will there be a time lapse before their ready to lay again .Also i think the smallest filter i have left is a 204 fluval it will be fair to power full for my baby tank. Will underwater gravel filter work better. Will sand still be ok as that is what i have all ready.Hope you dont mind my throwing all this at you.

you can keep the tank bare, get the water right and spawn them in the small tank, if you dont want to breed them , sell them on and get some smaller fish, if they lay in the main tank then they will be ready again in a couple of weeks, only move them if you are confident you have the water right, under gravel would probably be better but a sponge is best if you have one,

Hi,I used to bred angels on quite a big scale,my method is:set up a 24x15x12 tank, use mature filter media from their tank and water from the same, arrange stips of slate to provide spawning sites, put the pair in there and after they have settled they should spawn, raising the temperature to 80 will help, now use a small tank 10x8x8 inches put the tank water in it and put the slate with eggs in also add metheylene blue and put an airstone near the eggs, after hatching they will absorb the egg sack then you can start changing water and add a filter, start them on liquifry then move on to larger food,I use brine shrimp hatchlings but ground up flake is ok,as they grow you can then move them to larger tanks and you will need to do large water changes,It may seem complicated but when you get the hang of it ,it is easy, but as I said you need quite a lot of tanks to grow them on,regards Ray

One more thought Elmo or anyone else thats reading possibly a very silly thought just as theyve caught me out here.Could i not get some very fine net and try a very big try to partion off the end of tank.Just to at least try and save anything that might hatch. xx

what ray is saying is spot on if you have the time and money but if not then you can use a partition by the filter, you may have to syphon the rest of the tank more often, DONT USE A BREEDING NET, TRAP ETC , these are for live bearers, dont get alarmed if you see them taking the babies in their mouths, they will move them several times before they become free swimming, the sponge that i was on about is a sponge filter which stop the fry from being sucked in and can also harbour food which the babies will peck at
