well, i got lucky and my son got in free as i was using an Oyster Card for travel, some kind of special offer.
Normally its £13 for adults and £9 for children
How old is your kid?
|
21-10-2007 22:59 by Tina c
|
he is 10 and i would also be using an oyster card |
21-10-2007 23:01 by Fry Lover
|
my boy is 11, hopefully the offer will still be on
Well if he likes fish, and he hasn't been there before i think he'll really like it
There are some quite big sharks there, piranha and loads of nice marine fish
Both me and boy touched a stingray today, they let you pet them (if you are lucky enough that the Rays come to surface)

how long were you there is it an all day knackering experience like the zoo i don't know why we have never been there b4!! |
21-10-2007 23:05 by Fry Lover
|
its not an all dayer Tina, its not THAT big to be honest, even if you really take it all in and pay attention, you will be in and out in 2-hrs or so....
I think if it was just ME, i would be in longer, but my Daniel does like fish, but eventually gets bored
I would really like to take J-Girl there.... |
21-10-2007 23:07 by Tina c
|
and yes he loves fish (i think that's my doing it's certainly not his dads lol) his tiny bedroom is doninated by his 3ft goldfish tank. just like mum!!! |
21-10-2007 23:09 by Tina c

I have in-deed met the Mighty J-Girl

its not an amazing place for sure, but its got some nice set-ups and if you into fish, it does have a certain appeal for sure, well it did for me, personally i would go back for £13 in all in with my boy as i thinks its worth it for that price, but normally it would have cost £22 which is a bit steep for what you get, but its Central London!!! Come to expect it.
They must have the drabest Malawi section, they must have about 200-300 Malawi fish in the 3-6" region and i tell you, you'd be hard pressed to do it worse than they have, not many decent coloured's at all, looks like 70% hybrids. |

Looks like you had fun Mr Lover, ahh mini Lex! |

Lex just think what it would look likeif experienced aquarists had this at there disposal you could keep people messmerised for hours, like 5000 cardinals shoaling, all the different types of ray, seahorse breeding programmes, say 10 ton of live rock with good lighting would look great ,it seems to me they opened it and just sat on there laurels and are saying thats it.I thought it was quite drab and my daughter wanted to go after 40 mins not worth the money in any way.Remmember you have to pay to get there ,food, the cost of getting in ,all adds up to about £70 TO £80.I hope someone from the place looks at this post and takes it in as it could be world class with a with some input, great photos all the best ed. |

thanks Ed, well like i said about the Malawi section, you'd be hard pushed to make it look worse.
The problem with most (but not all) of their set-up's is that it is a just a bunch of fish thrown together rather than an actual aquatic display.
Also, a lot of the written information beside the species is not interesting enough, and very basic.
Saying that, i'd be happy to go again, alone or with someone else that really likes fish if it was CHEAPER.
I got in for £13 all in with my son, so not too bad. It's usually more.
Your point about the cardinal's is true. They have one set-up with a few discus and some of the biggest cardinal's i have seen, but its a poor effort really, especially from a planted perspective. And if you going to keep discus there, how comes the most plain ones. That pic i took was the best discus out of about 4.
They also have a fascination with Roach fish, so many, in quite a few different tanks, i mean once you seen a small / medium and large Roach you seen them all really |

|
i never get it whe places have huge tanks and *** fish in them...they should really go to town and put some nice colourful fish in there.... as for roach how boring are they |

Can't comment on the London aquarium, but Blue World in Cheshire is well worth a visit (about £12), the aquarium at Hull to me leaves a bit to be desired as it appears to be aimed more at youngsters. |

Agree with Kell, he really looks like you in the second pic FL
I like them things poking out the gravel haha.
Blue Planet in Ellsmere Port is good.
You can dive with the sharks and manta rays there, they are huge, I do have pics so could possibly post... they're huge!
The rays you can always touch as they seem to lap all the attention up, and its just a nice day out, it even includes a few anphibs+reptiles |
