Check out this monster i got, i traded in my RTCXTSN, and swapped him for this mother. Its a perruno the inside of the box is 16", so you can see how big he is. |

i think you need to put him in a bigger box
he will outgrow this one very soon |

|
Why'd you get rid of a fish you just bought. |
25-10-2007 18:08 by Bogwoodbruce
|
He was gonna get way to big and his future home wasn't going to be possible. I still made a profit on him. |
25-10-2007 18:13 by -Rob C-
|
Did you not know he was going to get too big? Surely a bit of research wouldn't have went a miss.
Hope you've got enough space for your new perruno |
25-10-2007 18:22 by Jake Casson
|
So thats going in your 6x2x2? Will outgrow it bruce.
You seem to be getting obsessed with tank busters now, your soon get very bored of that cat. They dont do alot, I give it 2 months |
25-10-2007 18:32 by tony
|
u know they can get to 3ft dont u |
25-10-2007 18:34 by Bogwoodbruce
|
i know how big they get it came from a good fishkeepign shop owner/bud, and it was his pet, and i am fully aware, no flaming look at your big fish in your 6x2x2 casson. |

|
Ive been researchin about them for the last 3 weeks. |
25-10-2007 18:44 by james1984
|
I don't know anything about catfish like this, but common sense tells me that if you couldnt provide space for the RTCXTSN it seems likely you will struggle to find space for this catfish that could apparantly grow to 3 foot in length! |
25-10-2007 18:45 by Bogwoodbruce
|
why won't you guys listen perrunos don't get much bigger than 22", this is a male and get smaller and less bulkier than the females. It's the marbled pim that gets 3 foot they are confused eaisly. I know what im doing. |
25-10-2007 18:50 by james1984
|
Fair does. |
25-10-2007 18:51 by Jake Casson
|
ha ha, youve been spending too much time on that american site. Your right, perruno's rarely exceed 2 foot, but that is still too big for 6x2x2. Marbled pim are great but you can watch them grow. Ive got a 30" trye track too |
25-10-2007 18:51 by -Rob C-
|
Bruce, that's 2" under 2 foot, so your tank is only 3 times longer than the fish - plent of swimming space?
And I don't think turning round will be too easy when it's nearly as big as the width of the tank.
If you've done lots of research how come you've still bought it? |
25-10-2007 18:57 by Bogwoodbruce
|
Because whos to say that we aren't upgrading to suit him, my arowana and niger. heh? |
25-10-2007 18:58 by Jake Casson
|
What, you have a niger too? Trop pond on way then. |
25-10-2007 19:00 by Bogwoodbruce

I just love winding people up, chill young brucey! You could always move to america |

|
boggie ya gotta learn to take criticism young man, especially when the criticism is correct,if ya wanna play with the big boys on MFK ya gotta provide the monster fish with monster tanks |
25-10-2007 19:45 by -Rob C-
|
I'm not winding you up Bruce, but you seem to buy fish without thinking of the space they'll need. |
25-10-2007 20:07 by Fry Lover
|
Boggy, dont leave the forum over it. Your a valued contributor (in my eyes) no doubt about that.
Just try your best to justify your actions and take stuff on board.
Jesus, i bought a Pacu a few months ago, put it in my Rio 300, had no idea
aint that right Uncle |

|
tell u what bruce if u get down to northampton look up nicky fish you will see purruno 3ft plus niger cat 4ft plus the guys had them years never seen them in any public aquariums this size |
25-10-2007 21:30 by Fry Lover
|
Bruce, at the end of the day, it probably aint worth keeping this fish, they take too much space, what do they do? they just sit there looking big?
For all that tank space you could have a stunning set-up
Big catfish are normally boring, just sitting there on the bottom |
25-10-2007 21:37 by Jake Casson
|
Too right, been there done that. Very boring.
Bruce is putting stingrays in a 32x18x20 - http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=97407
Dont do it please |
25-10-2007 21:40 by scott_91
|
Later in the thread bruce says
"I think that i'm going to leave it then."
so hopefully he wont put one in such a small tank! |
25-10-2007 21:41 by -Rob C-
|
Some people should be banned from keeping fish... |
25-10-2007 21:46 by Jake Casson
|
He is getting them, that tread is 3 pages long and he then decides to go ahead. But all is good as their then grown on then placed into a massive 4x2x2
Thats abit harsh rob |
25-10-2007 21:49 by -Rob C-
|
Not really, considering he constantly ignores advice.
He claims to research, which he may well do, but by the looks of it completely ignores.
He keeps fish that will easily out grow his set-ups. He's determined to keep lots of big fish, but doesn't have the space for them.
End of the day, it's not fair on the fish. |
25-10-2007 21:50 by Fry Lover
|
i wonder if Bogwood will return to fight the charges? i sense not
|
25-10-2007 22:12 by Jessica
|
Maybe Boggy is being unfair on the fish, I don't agree with what he's doing as it *seems* he's getting in over his head. I didn't agree with the buying of a fish to flog it off when it got too big, or the constant swopping, but critism certainly ain't gonna change his mind guys, as you can probably tell, it will just get his back up.
If he's going to upgrade for sure then get off his back? If not then fair enough but over a computer who can tell if he will or not until he informs us later on how things are going? No point arguing it out IMO 'till he comes back and says 'I traded this catfish in for a turtle' or something is there?
As for the 4x2x2, A 6x2x2 ain't much bigger...
FL - Tbh I wouldn't either if I was a 15 year old lad just wanting to share my new buy and was getting flamed by practally the majority of the forum. He's young. Good at providing the right conditions for fish, with age he might become abit more 'considerate' with space
Your sopposed to be the adults on this forum, why not suggest he's being abit tight without getting argumentitive about it |
25-10-2007 22:20 by -Rob C-
|
I started keeping fish when I was 13, I'm 17 now and to this day I've never bought a fish I couldn't keep long term. Being young is not a reason, it may be an excuse if he made a mistake once or twice, but it's happened lots and he doesn't even seem to realise how or why it's wrong.
Without criticism there's no way he'll know that what he's doing is wrong, so what are we supposed to do? Just let him keep buying fish that he can't look after? Surely that would be irresponsible.
We might not be able to stop him buying the fish, but we can strongly advise against it. |
25-10-2007 22:24 by tony
|
i dont agree with the comments on big cats just sit there i think we keep them at the wroung temp i got a 30in TSN CAT I keep temp at 84 and he always on the go apart from when hes had a good feed like the guy i said about the nigers and peruno his are kept at 86 and never stop moving i do agree if yu keep them at the 76 78 they sit about |
25-10-2007 22:36 by Fry Lover
|
a well put post Jessica, i do like your contributions, there should be more of them
i also reespect what others are saying like Rob C, but i do hope Bogwood doesnt disappear, he doesnt need to and it wont help his cause. I hope he stays |

Rob -c-
I'm not saying don't give critism.
But theres a way to do it, and a way not to.
You may well have started keeping fish at 13 good on you if were. I was successfully keeping rays at 13 but still made ALOT of mistakes I learnt from. Due to age, common sense LACKING because of age.
For reasons we know of, it may be worth thinking about the reason we are all more than aware of, that may prevent him from realising what hes doing is abit unfair.
He keeps his animals pristine, having seen pics of the lot (fish and others) and I think its fair to say he researches or couldn't keep some of the animals alive he does healthy. The only way he goes wrong is abit of overcrowding/size issues which even some of the adults have done on here
I don't agree with some things he does, No, but I'm not about to get short with him with something that could not be enitre fault. Please remember Rob none of us, even you are perfect when we keep fish, we all do something or another wrong, this is his, and whilst it maybe shouldn't be justified, talking to him like he's a person not a piece of **** may help him reason with what your saying.
I say this because I myself am more likely/happy to listen and put peoples advice into practise if theyre polite yet honest with, rather than honest and just plain harsh. My two cents anyway.
|
25-10-2007 22:42 by Jessica
|
Fry Lover Thanks. I just feel people such take the nice but honest approach, rather than the opposite. Yeah I can relate to what Rob C says, as he knows his stuff I will more than admit, but if he put his knowledge and advice across in a better manner shall we say, it may be more widely appreciated |
25-10-2007 22:51 by -Rob C-
|
I'd like to think I'm polite and put across my points in a good way. However, you can only do it so many times before you start getting annoyed as people ignore advice that they are given, this is what's happened with Bruce.
I'm not disputing the fact his fish and other animals are healthy, but he can't keep buying fish that are too big. Yet he still does, I can understand a mistake once or twice, but the same one again and again, I can't understand, nor can I justify that. |
25-10-2007 22:52 by tony
|
i thought u lost your rays jessica |
25-10-2007 23:03 by Jessica
|
*I was successfully keeping rays at 13 but still made ALOT of mistakes I learnt from.*
Tony I successfully kept them for a time, everybody on this forum knows I lost them along with my arrow and a few others overnight due to an unknown reason, However for quite a while I kept them alive well, and happy. Thats were the mistakes I've learnt from comes in
Rob -c- Fair enough mate but if I'm honest you always *seem* to have aless than -polite- approach but if you think you do I ain't gonna argue the matter LOL |
25-10-2007 23:05 by Jessica
|
And I'll add I more than learnt learnt my lesson when I lost those fish. I was devasted and my confidence in keeping fish was severely knocked, I didn't keep fish for awhile after that. Lex knows alot about that and if I'm honest he helped me get back up again and try again which I think, is a big part of the lesson. |
25-10-2007 23:09 by tony
|
fare play to u well done |
25-10-2007 23:14 by -Rob C-
|
If I'm impolite I may aswell ask a questions that's bugging me about you. Whats with the * and - around words? (I'm one to talk having - before and after my name) |
25-10-2007 23:21 by Jessica
|
Oh no worries Rob, i use it to emphasise words, I've learnt on forums to be extremely careful how you put your words because for the most part people seem to like (lol) interpreting your words different for an argument/debate.
' I don't agree with what he's doing as it *seems* he's getting over his head'
Usually, you'll have one person turning round and saying something along the lines of 'Who are you to say he's getting over his head' so I emphasise words such as seem, people can't turn around and be so quick to take what you say wrong. Works for me |
25-10-2007 23:22 by Jessica
|
And saves alot of hassle and arguing |

thats still a league above you Rob
its all banter though innit? |
26-10-2007 00:33 by Jessica

lmao @ Lex.
Rob, You can sound intellegent without sounding like a robot sometimes |
26-10-2007 00:34 by Jessica

Plus you could think about it this way:
Only an idiot would disregard somebody because of the way they talk |

I chose to come back ontot his site after being off for 4 months and it's just as bad, Rob -c- your always bithcing how can you run your own forum? Mr lover your sounds nothing wrong with you. Just let me make my own mistakes please. Thanks |
26-10-2007 07:14 by Bogwoodbruce
|
There are a lot of other member who do worst than me, saz is keeping a TSN in a 24" wide tank, and 3 Rays in a 5x2x2 i don't mean to bring other peeps in but why just me? |
26-10-2007 09:38 by saz
|
cough cough, the tsn is in a tank 30 inch wide, its 24 high and the retic rays are in a 5x2x2 (they are 4 and 5 inch disc at mo) but you know me bruce if the tanks need upgrading then il fit em somewhere Ive got to say though, i definately under estimated the tsn as 3 of my clown loach have disappeared and they were 5 inches each |
26-10-2007 10:36 by Fry Lover
|
hmmm, 3x5, blimey, 15" of Clown Loach gone eh?
I hope the TSN is worth it,
and what the bleeding heck is a TSN?
Can only guess......
Totally Silly Neolamprologus?
And what's this about a RTCXTSN, how comes thats its name?
Really Tall Catfish, xtra tank should necessitate?
|
26-10-2007 11:21 by telboy
|
tsn = tiger shovel nose
rtcxtsn = red tail catfish crossed with tiger shovel nose...hope this puts ya mind at ease young man |
26-10-2007 11:32 by -Rob C-
|
Bogwood I'm not bitching, I'm stating the truth. You can't deny that. As for running my own forum, I don't.
You are a good contributor and you have some nice fish, but you do need to start thinking a bit more about what you buy. |
26-10-2007 11:33 by -Rob C-
|
Also, as there seems to be confusion around how to write my name, Rob or Rob C would be fine, having dashes is acceptable, providing they're in the right place. |

Boggy you need to learn to take critism mate, and dont go running everytime you here something you dont like. You *seem* lol to give of the impression that you think people hate you when they post a negative comment which is totally not true.
I feel Rob is well justified in making the comments he did and also the harshness *seems* to appear as he and a few others have been down the same road with you before with trying to educate you against the reasons of why its not a good idea to stock such large fish into smaller tanks |
