Hi could anybody help? I came by a couple of Large koi from a pond that was overcrowded, all was ok for a while and one of the Koi did eat a bit for a while but has now gone off the food and just mopes around on the bottom. He does come around when the other fish eat but shies away. None of the new fish eat very much. Could this be due the stress of the move ? They have been in my pond for about 3 weeks now. I have checked the water for various PH etc and all ok also I have done a skin scrape to the best of my ability and found nothing. I did have two new fish several months ago show the same symptoms and they died. There are no marks on the fish and all my existing fish are healthy. The water temperature is about 11 degrees.
I wonder if any one has had the same situation? |

It's probably due to the time of year, koi will be getting ready for the winter so won't be eating much. Keep an eye on the fish, but I don't think there's anything to worry about.
What food are you feeding? Wheat germ would be best for this time of year. |

Hi yup wheatgerm. I forgot to say that I noticed the gills moving more than the other fish |

Try giving them a salt bath, if they are stressed that can sometimes help.

I always find that steaming them with some herbs and lemon is best. Serve with new potatoes. |

it is possible that your pond and its current inhabitants carries a viral or bacterial disease to which your existing fish have become immune , however if you had grabbed me ,thrown me into someone else's house at the start of winter then picked me back out and scraped half my skin off then threw me back in i would be fairly stressed , sometimes the best thing to do is nothing? if your pond has a decent ph no ammonia or nitrite and very low nitrate then thats all you should be concerned about dont go over the top |
