for breeding discus what would you recomend hma or ro and with hma do you still have to buffer the water to get the correct plh

Which one you use depends on the parameters of your local tap water,this will also apply to the need to alter thr PH,What is the GH,KH and PH of your tap water?

my tap water ph is about 7.2 and i am not sure on hardness but i can imagine it being about 5-6 with the ph being about 7-2 as ph 6 to 6.5 is about 3 hardness, do hma alter the ph or hardness

If its soft water get a HMA.

In soft water areas an HMA will be fine,unless you want to start a breeding program,a HMA is the first two stages of an RO and will not alter the PH, the hardness may alter as the pre filter will remove some suspended material,but it probably wont be much.
