harry is only larger cos he eats more and is only more aggressive cos hes bigger , you cant sex oscars visually and certainly not at this size, even if they are of opposite sex the chances of them pairing successfully is minute for oscars to thrive they need competition at feeding times i have some that are eight inches long and 8 months old and they havnt grown much in the last two months cos i backed off with feeding (too many water changes)p.s. the last thing the world needs is another pair of oscars there are already more than can be housed properly i have six currently one pair and four not sures but i keep the temp down cos i dont want any breeding. feed them prawns mealworm earthworm woodlice flies spiders crickets and very occasionally beefheart(i know fish only partly digest beefheart but they dont spew it out of their gills like pellet etc so there is less spare and therefor less pollution) |

hi big cat. thanks for your advice. much apriciated. they don't eat much pellets so live food is the way to go. and I have noticed that much of it comes out in their gills. I don't like spiders ao it will be good to feed harry and sally the spiders that come in the house lol. woodlice we have plenty of in the back garden so plenty of free food |

Hi all. update on the progress of harry and sally. they had 2 tank mates alan (syno) and dragon (plec) but unfortunatly they ate them both. today I bought some meal worms for them. and they are eating about 4 each of them and fighting to get to them first. too cold today to look for woodlice in the back garden so don't know how they will react to them. any comments would be apriciated. I have been feeding them cooked prawns is that good for them or should I get raw prawns? Will any cooked meat do for food for them like cooked chicken and turkey? Do they need any veggies or just meat? thanks for your time Short. |
