I just bought an overflowbox to set up with a sump. Was told it was a Schuran and runs about 2000l.My tank is freshwater, is about 130gallons and contains 9 Pygocentrus Caribe. The fitting on the overflow box is 32mm push fit.
Do i buy 32mm piping to fit into the fitting ?
I am looking to run at least a 48 x 12 x 15 inch sump. will this be big enough ?
What thickness of return pipe will i need ?
What size of return pump will i need? Any recomended ?The water will be pumped up about 3.5ft.
Sorry for all the stupid questions.I`ve looked on the net but i just cannot seem to take it in.
Thanks in advance.

i think you will need to buy 32mm pipe for the outlet, the sump sounds big enough, make the last chamber as big as possible cos its the one that drops in level. as long as the return pump flows less than the overflow box can cope with then you should have no problems i use a sicce on my 6x2x2 it has a top flow of 700 gallons i believe so would be down to 400 with the head it has running, its very quiet and economical, the return pipe is governed by the pumps outlet but usually an inch pipe would suffice |

What size is your pump and overflow ?
I am looking to filter the tank at least 4-5 times a hour.
Is it true you don`t need to turn the tank over as much when using a sump as you want the water to pass through the media slower?
Thanks again |
