Rare fish terry ,i have no experience of keeping cons plus i think the 6x2x2 would go through the floor. The tank i have is 48x18x12 and i have kept marines for over 15 years now so would like to go back to trops. |

Ed, good luck with discus,
when you fill the tank for every 15gall of ro put gallon of dechlorinated water |

Sorry Ed, back the issue.
What tank size set up you thinking for the discus?
Tempted to get started and then off load the marine when you can or is space an issue? Or cash? |

Lex the tank is 48x18highx12 wide so its the right height,i was thinking about a breeding pair say about 6 inches.Eventually when i get the house i am after i will build a fish house and get whatever i want |

Ed, regarding Discus, i am well down the pecking order in knowledge but......
i have many a time read of many different forums, peeps urging "new to discus" peeps to get a GROUP instead of a PAIR to begin with.
Any apparent breeding "pair" will not necessarily stay a "pair" after they get moved. Although you could say the same for any "pair" fo fish i guess.
Although saying that, you could always get x2 and see how it goes. Nothing to lose really
Ed, i also read time and time again from peeps that appear to know what they talking about, that Discus feel a lot more comfortable in a group and with a 48x12x18 you got the space for 5 or 6 i am sure.
Now there will be a peep coming on soon, to say say "i got x2 on their own and they are fine" bla, bla, bla, i respect that, BUT i like i said i read many a time people advise about having a group to start with.
Also, i heard a lot of peeps recommend "Chens Discus" but you may be aware of this.
Ed, you remember the German dude near Highgate Tube, The Highgate Aquarist! He had a discus set-up at the back of that shop, that to this very day, i think is the finest set-up i have ever seen in person.
So, to this day, i still myself harbour visions of a Discus set-up. I would go the whole hog, and also include a proper co2 system for the plants.
Have you got so far to think about the decor and plants etc? Or other tank mates (if any?)

Edward Irvine, you have probably seen it, but there is another thread about discus warming up nicely

Lex i knew the guy from the highgate aquarist eberhard schultz a very wise person on discus,i worked next door renovating a block of flats about 17 years ago.He had fantastic setups and made it look easy just dont overcomplicate things he said when some tossed came in and put a little bleach in each tank and wiped everything out.Anyway lex i will start with a mated pair and take it from there i suppose its like anything else trials and tribulation,i have been doing quite a bit of research and feel qualified to meet this head on. |

yeh, its all an experiment really, thats half the excitement Ed
You need to learn part of this through the experience
How long do you reckon we looking at time-wise before you start up?
|

About two weeks time and i have been looking at chens discus nice fish not too exspensive as you get used to it dealing with marines also quite a few people selling discus off on this site,i will put some pics up when its going but i know i will need some advice so i will be blasting away on here |
