the plants were an experiment, i only put some in the mbuna to nibble on then i liked the look, they eat them eventually, but they are only cheap

cant get over how clean your rock is, even in mine which is way overfiltered, the rocks have a tinge of green

jess do you know how much that rock costs more to the point, ive got two piles so far apart to keep my dominant fish from fighting so much, at the moment theres three male auratus(i keep thinning them out but another just colours up) 1 of them takes the left side of the big rock, one has the right hand side of the big rock and the big daddy male has the pile of rocks, they pretty much keep out each other way at the minute, if i was to add more rocks(which i have done before) it brings their territories closer together and in turn more fighting, and instead of males chasing females its males chasing males which gets abit relentless

Your better off having one large pile of rock than 2 smaller piles as any dominant male will try and claim one whole part themselves rather than just a cave. it will reduce the aggression.

id like more rock, but as i say

interesting point keith, in my other malawi tank there seems to be much more aggression, but that has a single rockpile...the thing is, most of the fish defend a tiny part of the rock, but they cant figure there terroritites out, so any fish having a nosy around the rocks gets taken out by everything

Woz, about 2 months ago i took out all my rock and bleached it overnight (5% solution). Its stayed clean ever since.

I have the lights on in that tank for only about 4 hrs per day. I also have x2 Bristlenose and x2 Algae Eaters which helps.
