I'm converting my Juwel Record 120 into an Amazon biotope tank.
It's filtered by an AquoPro 1 external filter aswell as an internal Fluval 2.
The water is soft and acidic (pH 6.5) and 28°C.
The fish stock I currently have are as follows-
3 Angelfish (Pterophyllium Scalare) - Eastwards from Peru to Belem, Brazil, SA
20 X-Ray Tetra (Pristella Maxillaris) - Venezuela to Brazil, SA
1 Bronze Cory (Corydoras aeneus) - Venezuela to Argentina, SA
1 Hoplo Catfish (Hoplosternum Thoractum) - Peru to Guyana, SA
1 Bolivian Ram (Microgeophagus altispinosa) - Brazil, Bolivia, SA
1 Keyhole Cichlid (Cleithracara maronii) - Guyana, SA
1 Clown Plec (Panaque maccus) - Venezuela to Brazil, SA
From varying locations but all South American so require fairly similar conditions.
And I'll be adding-
12 Marbled Hatchetfish (Carnegiella strigata) - Northern SA
4 Bronze Cory (Corydoras aeneus) - Venezuela to Argentina, SA
4 Albino Bronze Cory (Corydoras aeneus) - Venezuela to Argentina, SA
10 Ottos (Otocinclus affinis) - Brazil, SA
Anyone know of a good place to buy these fish online?
I'm also wanting some plants-
Red Cambomba (Cambomba caroliniana)
Amazon Frogbit(Limnobiu laevigatun)
Dwarf Sword (Echinodorus tenellus)
Hairgrass (Eleocharis Vivipara)
Again, does anyone know a good place to buy these?
Any suggestion/recommendations/criticisms are welcome. |

After researching even more I'm finding less and less suitable plants. If anyone has some ideas for good plants then let me know. |

Had a look on ebay, again no luck.
I've emailed Trimar, asking if they'll get any in stock, and I have found out that a shop about 40 miles away has some.
All the plants are sorted now, all from http://www.aquaticplants.eu.com/
List as follows-
ECHINODORUS BREVIPEDICELLATUS ( NARROW LEAF "RED AMAZON")
ECHINODORUS TENELLUS (DWARF CHAIN SWORD)
LIMNOBIUM SPONGIA (AMAZON FROGBIT TROPICAL)
HYDROCOTYL LEUCOCEPHALA (COMMON PENNYWORT)
MYACCA FLUVIATILIS (BRAZILIAN MYACCA)
HETERANTHERA ZOSTERIFOLIA (SEA GRASS PLANT) |

a lot of fish for a 120 (all be it small fish) except for the Angels. Hopefully your plants will take off and help with the nitrate levels a little bit.
Thats got the makings of a very relaxing tank!
There will be quite a bit of competition for food on the lower levels though for a tank that size with that many bottom feeders and algae eaters. I am sure you will manage it though
Do you think the Otto's might be at risk from the Angels at all? Thats just a wild guess on my part. Pure speculation!

It will be quite heavily stocked, but the amount of plants will make up for it. The fish list is just rough, it's only ideas at the minute, but I really like the idea of have having hatchets at the top swimming inbetween the roots of the Amazon Frogbit.
I'll be using a variety of foods so the fish on the lower levels won't struggle for food, plus the ottos will have plenty of algae to be cleaning up as I may take a few out of that tank and put some more in my Endler tank (it currently has two in).
The Angels should be ok with the ottos, they used to be housed with the ottos that are in my Endler tank and I never had any problems, but I will keep an eye on it.
Cheers for the contribution Lex, hopefully it will be a nice relaxing tank and near completed around Christmas time. |

The plants will be arriving before 5:30 on Wednesday, so certianly doesn't take long for them to be dispatched.
I'll try ang get some decent pictures but I don't have a decent camera. |

Plants have arrived and look good, some are a bit smaller than I thought they'd be but they'll grow.
I've also got CO2 now on for the tank.
Planted up, looks ok. Will be much better once the plants grow a bit and the rest of the fish are in. I'll try and get some pictures later tonight. |

The angels have took a liking to the Brazillian Myacca and have decided to eat some of it. So they're in a different tank and will be rehomed. |
