Here comes another one of my stupid questions,as posted before i am going to set up a 5x2x2.4 tank in my front room,it was suggested that i run a sump with this tank but i am a little concerned about weight of the tanks and although i have been keeping fish again for over 2 years i would not have a clue how to set up a sump,so my question is can i link one fluval 404 to another ?reason is the tank is fitted with weirs at both ends at back corners ,holes in bottom of tank will only be big enough to get one 404 pipe through so can the outlet pipe go to one filter then inlet pipe from that one go to outlet on other then inlet back into tank?if i can do this do both filters need to be running or would the second one be man enough to draw the water through the first one, thanks, woody |

where abouts are you ?, im in kent,if you are local you can come and see how to set it up it's easy and would be much better, or we can explain on the phone how to do if.
do you have enough room to stand the 404 under the tank ?

if your tank loses too much water through evaporation there is a risk your filters will suck in air as the weirs level falls, if you have two pumps and two weirs then attach one to one and return them seperately |

What sort of floor do you have? A sump will be much better than 2 404's as you will have a much larger area of media. Nigel said if you PM him your email address, he will send you drawings and instructions on how to set it up.

I don't know if you can do it with 404's but I have 2 403's joined together, only one is powered, and use the same method on a smaller tank with an Eheim Ecco and Classic 2213, works a treat. Mine are joined together in the way you have described, and I've found it to give me excellent filtration without the extra flow rate by running both independantly. |

the only thing that might cause problem would be possable airlock between the two filters?
a sump can be small it doesnt need to be massive |
