Thought it would be easier to have a seperate thread for the photos. These photos were taken a few minutes after I finished planting, I'll try and get new pictures every week or two. |

good choice with substrate, my taste would be to add some darker coloured fish, especially low-mid level swimmers but i am just going on pics, i know you have plans

Now the X-Ray tetras are confident they are swimming round so that cover mid-level.
The contrast of dark fish against the pale sand and green plants would be good, I think more corys will do the job. |

Looking real good |

Rob, i cant remember your list or if these suit your set-up, but for colouring how about considering; harlequins, black neons, serpae tetra or penguin tetra |

from your original thread
And I'll be adding-
12 Marbled Hatchetfish (Carnegiella strigata) - Northern SA
4 Bronze Cory (Corydoras aeneus) - Venezuela to Argentina, SA
4 Albino Bronze Cory (Corydoras aeneus) - Venezuela to Argentina, SA
10 Ottos (Otocinclus affinis) - Brazil, SA
As much as i love them and i have loads, I would ditch the albino cory and get all Bronze, or some Julii's or similar |

I really like the albinos and think it would make it more intresting to have slight variation to all bronze. Might go for 6 normal and 2 albino instead.
Penguin tetras probably wouldn't get along with the hatchets very well. I'll see how the tank looks in a while and decided if I need more tetras. I don't want to many as it will look over crowded.
I think the Hatchets and X-Rays will be enough, only problem is finding the Hatchets. |

See if you can get other types of Cory as well like Adolfi, they should suit your parameters anyway
Are you really attached to your Angels? As if they were to disappear, increase your options, or maybe i'll just disappear for suggesting it, just thinking size of tank thats all |

nice rob
they arrived Ok then? |

I'd agree with Fry Lover with the black neons, they look stunning in a planted tank. If you were wanting albino type corys, why not go for something like pandas, adolfi or bandits instead? Having sand in all my tanks, I find that albinos kinda get lost, if you know what I mean? |

Oops was still typing my reply, didnae notice FL had posted about adolfis lol |

They've already disappeared, after one started eating some of the Brazillian Myacca (back left). They're in a different tank and will be rehomed as soon as I can.
I'm trying to stick to one type of species, but I'll have a look into it now, before going for bronze corys.
Suggest whatever you want, just bare in mind that the fish must be from the Amazon. I don't really know why I'm doing it, just a bit more natural and slightly more challenging I guess.
And Jess yes they arrived fine, a little bit late but the couriers are swamped at the minute with it being near Christmas. I'd certainly use the company again. |

thanks rob I'll be ordering from them then LOL. |

Well Lex, what are your suggestions now the angels have gone? |

The Angels gone? News to me!
How about a Pacu, thats Amazon?
On a more serious note, have you considered any of the Apistogramma cichlids?
What is it about Penguin Tetra's you dont think will work with Hatchet Fish?
I also have x14 Rosey Tetra's and they are awesome,
as you are probably aware, lots of tetra's look completely different (better) in your aquarium if its right for them, than they will ever look in the LFS, Rosey Tetra and Flame Tetra's are good examples. Their red and black colouring really coming on once they settle down in your set-up.
Actually i would really consider a few Rosey or Flame Tetra in your set-up.
They are much more interesting than neons or cardinals in my experience, Rosey and Flame's really interact with each other, chasing and playing games etc in my experience. Penguins do so to, but not quite as much as Rosey or Flame's.
Although black neons look nice in theory, i am not a great fan of neons or cardinals they dont seem to have to longevity of other tetra's. Although your water params are better than mine for neons and cards
You're right about a mix of cory's they will socialise with each other any (different types)

I've just Googled Rosy (not Rosey lol) Tetra, cant find any that look as nice as mine, this is the closest i can find to doing the fish justice
|
29-11-2007 20:15 by Fry Lover
|
mine have longer fins, i cant get a piccy of them, always comes out blurred as they never still
notice the bright red markings on fins, thats what mine are like, it really is a good look |

Looks fairly similar to my X-Ray tetras, nice fish. Know what you mean about the neons, I've had them in the past and as nice as they are there isn't much to them.
In the past I've had problems with Penguin tetras being agressive to any other fish at the top. I've decided against the Hatchets now as I won't see much of them, instead I'm going for some Pencil Fish.
Also, regarding Corys, you've twisted my arm, I'm getting a group of 12 Corydoras Pygmaeus instead of bronze. |
29-11-2007 20:45 by -Rob C-
|
Oh and I have been looking at Aspitos aswell as other SA Cichlids, but I'm not sure how the Keyhole would react as he/she is the boss of the tank. |
29-11-2007 20:49 by Fry Lover
|
those are the dwarf cory's aren't they?
dont find them for sale much? But i seen some in my local maidenhead
if one cichlid is established, might not be worth the risk in that size tank (re aspitos)

i think you should get the hatchet fish, they really define an amazon tank IMO |
29-11-2007 22:12 by -Rob C-
|
Only problem with them is the fact I won't see them much as they stay at the surface. Now I've thought more about the pencilfish I'm leaning more towards them. Like I've said though, I'll give it a few weeks, see how it looks and pick fish that will suit. |
29-11-2007 22:19 by Fry Lover

then look at your tank from a low angle Rob |
29-11-2007 22:29 by -Rob C-
|
I will be some of the time, but being 6'3" does mean that I probably won't see the hatchets when I walk past the tank. |
29-11-2007 22:44 by telboy
|
if you do get the hatchets make sure you dont startle em with the lid off cos they are also known as fresh water flying fish |
29-11-2007 22:46 by -Rob C-
|
Cheers Tel, I'd known about that before. It'll make it hard when trimming back the plants. Another reason not to get them. |

Got home from work tonight to find that the plec has done some damage to the Amazon swords - he's now in the Endler tank, so I've took the two ottos out of the endler tank and they're now in the Amazon tank.
All is good apart from that, the Pennywort has reached the top of the tank and will need trimming soon. The Bazilian Myacca ihe grown slightly, so has the Sea grass. Only problem is that some of the sea grass' leaves are slightly yellow, so I've moved the floating plants, might need to move the sea grass to a different place though. The amazon frogbit is branching out making a few new plants, as is the echinodorus tennelus, a few keep floating to the top so I have to replant them.
Saw the tetras doing spawning runs through the plants the other day, so they must be happy. Oh and the CO2 is going nicely now.
All is looking very good, just need to think a bit more about what fish I want to have. |
