Spike - I want to set up a sump filter also for a central fresh water system, but I am a step behind you in where I am up to. What is the best aproach to use/design and has anyone got any good hints or pic's they could share? |

Alfa grog's a good media to use, also bio-balls. We put filter wool where the water enters the sump to take out any large 'bits'. Leave the last chamber empty of media and put your return pump and heater in there.

Add some k1 and add an airstone to aireate it aswell, far superior to bioballs. Quite expensive but really good stuff if used correctly |

i have a sump running under a 6x2x2 aqua one , the weir is 6x6 (inches) and has three different grades of foam then the rest is full of koi pond filter media i bought off ebay, the cheapest bio media i could find , the sump has five chambers the first is empty the second has pond brushes this overflows into three stage sponges again and then into heater box over then into a wedge shaped small section full of filter wool and off into pump chamber but technically the weir has sufficient biological media to keep this tank running??( i currently have the whole thing full of media as i am maturing it for my fish house ) |
