Hi,

Over the last couple of weeks I have notice bristleworms in my tank. I have also read varying reports on whether on not they should be allowed to stay in the tank or not. I basically need some clarification on this point.

Last night I also managed to catch two of the larger worm, app. 30cm and 15cm. My second problem is that my partner would prefer me not to kill/ flush the worms down the drain so I have kept them in a spare tank I use for mixing water. Would there be any benefit to returning them to the main tank and is there any real point in keeping them alive in the mixing tank?

They are a great benifit to the clean up crew, and free.

Have a look at this site, to see if you can id which SP it is.

Handle with extreme care getting stung by one of these is extremely painful.

They may possibly be Hermodice carunculata

This link maybe of interest.

Thanks both for all the help. Not actually sure if the situation is any clearer or if I am even more confused now. From Alan's site the image looks like the Eurythoe Camplanata which is harmless but from other sites it looks like the Hermodice Carunculata.

I must admit that none of my corals seems to have been harmed as yet. In this case I may just leave the smaller ones in the tank as clean up crews and then take them out once they get to a serious size.

Hi. Can anyone help identify these. We have a lot of these in the tank. Something has been eating our polyps and thinking these may be the culprits. Any advice on what they are and how to get rid of the if they are the culprits. Thanks
