Prime is good but is rather expensive, but pond dechlorinator works fine and you dont have to use as much |

If you know any aquarists nearby, use some of their "dirty" water from water change to get things started. Also use gravel out of an established tank, as media in a filter compartment (bringing bacteria with it) |

any water conditioner that removes chlorine and chloramine will do the job (your local water board may or may not use chloramine)if you need to mature your tank then speak to graeme at discus essentials he has some stuff that can do it really quickly.
ask your local water board if they add chloramine or run a bath if you dont smell much chlorine till you get in then they likely add chloramine (chloramine breaks down on contact with organic substances into chlorine and ammonia) |

I dont use them and do 50% water changes on my tank with very sensitive fish like stingrays, aros and dats. Other people I know with fish just as sensiive and worth 1000s dont bother too |

Jake do you refill your tanks with a hose set to mist the water? If you do this is a viable way of avoiding the need for dechlorinator if no chloramines are in the water.
However this may not be wholly effective.
I use the waste water from an RO unit on my freshwater tanks no dechlorinator needed all heavy metal removed and the soft water I have is a little bit harder so I get a more stable ph marvellous plus I no longer have the worry of dechlorinators inhibiting the effectiveness of any remedies I may need to use in the future. |
