Making a tank stand stronger? |

Basically, i have Juwel Rio stands at my disposal. They are for Rio 400 and Rio 300. They are both 20" deep and either 60" or 48" long.
Question.....
With appropriate reinforcing, could i reasonably get away with having either a 22" deep or 24" deep tank on these stands?
i.e.
Stand designed for 48x20x24(high)
Put a 48x22(or 24)x24(high on it)
Stand designed for 60x20x24(high)
Put a 60x22(or 24)x24(high on it) |

Had some communication with a guy that makes his own stands and has many tanks of various sizes....
If i use some 47x100mm sawn timber to reinforce and some 3/4" plywood i should be more than okay for pushing an extra few inches in tank size onto the stand.
He says avoid MDF and go for Plywood as a base on top of original stand.
Any views on all this?

Fry use 18mm WPB ply its not expencive and its water/boil proof
mosture resisten mdf (green core) still swells if it gets wet.

CHANGE OF PLAN
Right, its going to be a 5x2x2 tank
and i am just going to use 18mm Plywood and Concrete Blocks as a stand with some material over the front of the stand to hide the concrete blocks.
Questions:
--> I am on the ground floor with laminate flooring in my lounge. Will x1 18mm 5x2 Plywood sheet be enough to disperse the weight from the concrete blocks, or should i go for x2 18mm sheets of Plywood at the bottom of this stand?
--> The Concrete blocks are 440 x 215 x 100mm, so thats basically 100mm (3.94" high), i want the tank about 28" off the floor, which would mean using x18 blocks (3 rows of 6 high). Does that sound ok?
--> What do people think of this as a structure (below)
one or two sheets of 18mm Plywood (5x2) at bottom of structure
then...................
three rows of concrete blocks (stacked x3 high)
then...................
one sheet of 18mm Playwood (5x2) to act as a shelf to store medications and food etc
then...................
three more rows of concrete blocks (stacked x3 high)
then...................
Finally one or two sheets of 18mm Plywood (5x2) at top of structure
then...................
Finished off with polystyrene
This would make it between 66cm (26") and 70cm (27.5") high depending on how many sheets of plywood i use
The slight issue is having to store my external filters behind the tank rather than under it

is it your own house fry? if its rented perhaps you beter put some protection between the laminate flooring and bottom sheet of ply

thanks Pope, carpet idea is a good'un
i dont think the stock of this 5x2x2 will be everyones cup of tea, its going to be my.....
- gorgeous orange blood parrots!
- senegal bichirs
- rope fish
- x1 youngish tiger oscar
- rainbow fish
mate, my parrots are my discus so to speak, i know many if not all will think i am taking the Michael, but i think they are such lovely fish the way i keep them and the specimens i got, full of character.
EDIT: mine are lovely, i must admit i dont like most parrots, but the ones i have picked are the least deformed looking and none are dyed. I only like the bright orange type
pics to follow in a few weeks
