For those who have used this, have you noticed a reduction in nitrate levels?

It says it "controls ammonia, nitrite and nitrate" i guess it means it can help these stop climbing as the Purigen deals with the "organic waste"

Therefore i guess it doesnt actually reduce the nitrates once the nitrates form, but is supposed to help interfere with the whole ammonia, to nitrite, to nitrate process?

I've heard some really positive things about this product, from scanning threads on other forums. It also seems quite reasonable in terms of ££££

It is capable of removing Nitrate, but don't expect it to be instantaneous. I don't think it would remove very large ammounts of Nitrate, this is done with large repeated waterchanges. I think it's an excellent product but the rechargeing with bleach is fiddly (it needs some serious rinsing)

yeh the recharging with bleach thing puts me off a little, not the actual bleach as such, as i know how to eliminate bleach once its used, its just the whole fiddly process i guess. But then again i guess it is supposed to last a while before it needs recharging.

Phill, tell me more why you feel its a good product please, thanks

The reason I started using it was due to an observation by an aquaintance who found it useful for reducing some of the skittishness in wild softwater fish. the reasoning was that it was reducing something in the water that contributed to this. It was also thought that some hard to spawn Loricarids became more enthusiastic after it was used. I find that controlling nitrate is problematic unless you feed very little and keep few fish in a lot of water
