Can anyone Identify this urchin |

This urchin has been in my tank for a 8 months it started off from a small thing that came with the rock that i had brought.. its now 4-5 inchs wide(inc spines). it's a real dark green colour almost black.. it has a pure black underbelly with white suckers(feet) i do have some pictures to follow... also if you might know of anywhere that i might find out! thanx |

I have 1 of these, and its common name is a Rock Boring Urchin.

I've got one of these make sure all your rock work is secure and also watch for those spikes they hurt like hell if you get one in your hand.
They eat coralline algae and therefore are a very useful addition to the reef tank especially if coralline algae is getting to pest levels. |

The body size of mine is just under 3" in diameter. The spines on mine have not grown proportionately to the diameter of the urchin they have remained pretty much the same length at about 3" long. It only seems to be the body that grows. |
