suggestions for the forum, sorry if this has been said and answered before.....and i also appreciate that you run it alone and its time consuming and not easy to make alterations.....

1. an editing tool for posts so idiots who type too fast and dont check what their typing (like me) can edit their posts after LOL

2. a way of seeing "who's on-line" i think this may encourage more posts and a greater community feel

3. having a more traditional forum layout (you know, sections etc)

4. i agree about not having "post counts" they dont really serve much purpose

5. maybe appoint someone (not me) as a moderator to help you a little?

again, i dont mean to criticise, and i will continue to use the forum anyway, regardless of how you take to these idea's

also what i think will be handy is a last poster link? you know like they have on most forums the name is at the side with an icon or summat so you click on it and it takes you to the last post, saves you having to scroll through loadsa stufff youve already read all ready my boi

we are going to get the latest vBulletin forum software installed soon. we are arranging the styling to make it look seamlessley like the rest of the site. so when ready (hoping for march) we will direct visitors to the new version.

vBulletin is the best forum software around and packed with features that are now expected on modern forums.

we are beta testing over here: new vbulletin forum

still messing with the layout, very frustrating when you want something different from the norm.

registrations are working and the rest, but we are still messing with the look and feel.

are the categories OK? or are we narrowing in too much?

Master, this is a strange coincidence, only earlier this week i joined a new forum (i use about 5 fish forums), and this forum i joined this week has the best layout (in my opinion) i seen on a fish forum...

and its the SAME kind of layout you doing with your new idea, so i guess its the same software, so if thats the case its a massive thumbs up from me!!!!

I see Yanton has already joined

will we all have to rejoin webbie?

as for the actual forum layout and categories, i think you can afford to have more categories actually. it would appear most forums have about 30-40 amazingly and you have 8.

Now i am not saying it needs 30-40 i am just saying that successful forums are successful with 30-40, but sometimes it can be a bit "much" having so many.......

But i think something between the 8 you have got there and the 30 might be the order of the day?

Some idea's for other catergories (although perhaps some of these can go in the general tropical fish category you have put first)

- Oddballs
- Catfish / Pleco's
- Plants / Planted Tanks
- Equipment
- Introductions
- Members fish and tank pictures

The "equipment" category works very well on other forums and is very, very useful, especially to newbies, who get a lot of support from other members and hence find more use from the forum

yes it is a re-join as it is a new database.

it is vBulletin software, the best around (cost me £170) with the regular facilities of modern forums such as PM storage and also graphics upload.

Layout is not finished yet, will do more on monday.

you are all welcome to sign up, this is part of the beta testing process.

if you can add some posts and use it as normal (excuse the layout) that would be appreciated. the database should store all posts while we continue developing.

no multiple identities please.

with the suggestion for diseases, we did think about that, but as that category was rarely used on this forum, we would prefer a sickness question goes in the relevant category (marines, discus etc).
