Resting Black Moor? |

Hello
I've recently brought a couple of goldfish and a black moor.
The water has been treated, an air filter and pump fitted....
I've noticed tho that my black moor spends quite a lot of time at the bottom of the tank - is this normal, is he resting?
Any advise would be good, thanks.

is he feeding? maybe you should try aa water testing kit. with new setups there is sometimes a problem with waste build-up in the water. |

You say you have an air filter, is this the sort that uses an air pump and a sponge filter? With a new tank set up it takes time for the filter to become established so water testing and water changes are a must, don't forget in essence the fish live in a toilet! |

Thanks for the replies.
He's a very happy fish, obviously resting as I said.
He's full of it now, loves his new home.
He's growing so quickly though or is that just my imagination?
Do they grow quickly?
Thanks again

to change the water, you need to fill a bucket halfway with water from the Tank itself, rinse out your filter media in the bucket, and return the filter to the tank, Then you top up the tank with fresh water, (preferably NOT from the kitchen tap in you have tropicals)...luck to you.. |

Best to change the water in small measures over a period of time, depends really on the size of your tank, too big a change of water all at once will cause the fish to experience a culture shock, pretty much like somebody dumping a bucket of cold water over you while your sitting in a hot bath....do it slow, be patient, half a bucket every two days is cool, and let the filter do it's job.. |

hi, my son has a black moor that we have had for about 18 months. for the last two days he has been floating on his side almost constantly at the top of the water. he occassionally swims and is feeding.do you think he is ill as we have never seen him do this before?he has no visible damage of spots on him but he is even eating upside down.should i remove him from the tank? |

its either a swim bladder problem.
I think I heard constipation can cause this, but does this in turn cause swimbladder problems.
On the subject of black moors, mine got under the syphon hose yesterday and I sucked off a ring of scales, he was initially shocked but fed straight away on bloodworm and he seems fine now, I hope it dosent cause any long term problems. |
