Hi there, I've got a leak in my pond liner and I can't find it!! Any tips on how to find the hole or ingenious ways of mending it would be appreciated, otherwise I will have to get rid of my koi carp while I re-line it and re-build the pond - very sad.

oops sorry forgot to try and find the leak run your fingers around the waters edge to try and find something sharp, an algae magnet will help locate metal objects

Sorry to hear you have a problem with your pond. Firstly, are you sure you have a leak and if so how? It could be that you have a leak in your filter system or a lot of people do not realise how much water is lost to evaporation during this hot weather. Let me know and I will see if I can help. Also if you do have to go to the extremes of emptying your pond, you do not need to get rid of your koi, you can either buy or hire large holding vats for the fish.

if you find the leak there are repair kit that work under the water so you dont have to drain the pond

One way to find the leak is not to top up the pond at all and wait for the level to stabalise and hope it is not at the bottom. If you do this you must be on hand at all times, I pressume the leak is relatively slow. When the level stabalises you will have to search along the water line and about an inch above it to find the hole, then you can go about reparing it.

Do you know how old the liner is? If it is over 15 years old I would consider draining the pond and replacing the liner entirely.

Talk to your local fish shops about facilities for looking after koi or fish for a few days there are many companies and shops that will be able to assist possibly by being able to rent out a large vat that could hold the fish while you sort the pond out.
