Sounds like the fish have got a bit stressed from the white spot, try adding some salt. |

With out seeing the fish it is difficult to be sure but if all fish are showing signs of this I would suspect there is an underlying cause. Yes the whitespot will have stressed them and left them open to infection but I also suspect there may be a water quality issue here.
Have you checked the following:
Ammonia
Nitrite
Nitrate
PH and hardness
Do you ever change any water in the pond?
The salt will help but you will have to be prepared to do a series of large water changes to remove the salt gradually.
Another thought, are the fins blood streaked? If so it is almost certainly a water quality problem.
The salt you want is basically Sodium Chloride a lot of people use aquarium tonic salt or the pond equivalent I don't bother as it is just precipitated salt water so it has a whole host of other pointless minerals that are of no benefit.
Dish washer salt is the cheapest way of obtaining large quantities of sodium chloride. |

In reply to Alan's questions:
"Have you checked the following:
Ammonia
Nitrite

No
"Do you ever change any water in the pond?"
Yes 40-60% per week
"Another thought, are the fins blood streaked?"
No

sounds like an internal infection to me perhaps scepticimia. normally brought around by bad water conditions.
what filtration does your pond offer and i assume you treat the water being added to your pond? its all too easy to recommend adding salt but you need to find the root of the problem and not a quick pep fix for the fish. i would say you may have a problem with your maintance routine. already the fact that you mention you've had ich in the tank suggests your water quality is not very good |

So your saying i should do a complete water change of the pond while examining the goldies, shub's and koi in more detail? |
09-09-2005 21:31 by danny boy
|
no never! a complete water change would only serve to starve your bacteria. you only need to do a 30% water change depending on the bio load and the size of the pond maybe every 2 weeks. what im trying to say is that its in your intrest to keep good water quality its your routine that needs to be changed rather than all of the water.
i take it you do have filtration on the pond?
ever seen a really nice koi pond with crystal clear water? thats down to good water conditions and maintance, nothing can be more impressive in a garden |

how large are the red spots as it could be wounds caused by fish louse |
09-09-2005 23:55 by Whatever
|
the spots are about 1/4 inch in diameter. |

try and net some fish out and look for fish louse as they can leave red marks on the fish where they have been feeding |
10-09-2005 01:51 by danny boy
|
if it is fish louse you will be able to tell as they are tiny brown spots, if you know what you are doing take a scraping and have a look you will more than likely find the correct answer that way.\
im still intrested to hear if you do have aany filtration? you seem to keep avoiding the question |
