Can regular goldfish you buy at the pet store be bred, or are they diagnosed with a chemical the prevents egg laying or fertilization?

I stocked my pond with such fish which have grown-on over the past few years and have spawned regulary for the past two.

Mine have breed, I think that you need some shallow water in the pond plus they need some weed or similar to spawn onto.1 christmas day about 8 years ago, when we got up in the morning, we saw that our fancy goldfish were spawning in our tank so the unwrapping of pressies went on hold and we got the eggs out and put them into a small tank and it was fascinating watching them grow and hatch.
