I have spotted the odd worm on a couple of fish and need to treat it before it becomes a problem.
Does anyone have any recomended & proven cures, apart from picking them off individual fish which could result in secondary infections.
Sorry, should have added that I have researched the web but have only come up with Interpet Anti Crutasean No12 and an API product called Dimilin, but I have not been able to track down a UK supplier of this.
Can some of our retail contributors help here ?
As far as I know, you must remove each one individualy. The way I have done this in the past is to make up some potassiun permagantee and dip some tweezers into it and as you put the tweezers onto the anchor worm, it withdraws it's head from under the fishes skin and you canthem remove it. DO NOT pull it as the head will brake off and this is what causes secondary infections. Then I give the pond a dose of pp as well. My husband says to try cloromine T.
Linda - Apart from great difficulty catching individual fish which would mean dismantling my tank, my research indicates individual worm removal is probably not the best thing as it increases the chance of secondary infections.
The Interpet medication can be used to treat the whole tank which is especially useful as most parasites etc have a life cycle and the larval stage (before the females attact to the fish) also needs to be treated.
I only asked the question incase someone had used an alternative medication, but thanks for your input
