I've built a couple inline nitrate filters that can be attached to a hose pipe whilst you fill the tank up at water change time...
If anyone is interested let me know. They are like supersized Nitragon filters but far more efficient and don't reduce water flow by much. My one flows at 500LPH, almost as fast as water comes out of the tap. Not a silly trickle feed.
Each filter is £275 which isn't bad compared to a nitragon (£110 that need replacing often) and this will last most people a good year or 2 before it needs recharging and once recharged its as good as new! This will last a lifetime not just a couple years.
They are about the size of a chunky fire extinguisher. They take normal hose pipe fittings, all filters will be fitted with hozelock fitting to ensure you don't get leaky joins. Only good quality parts are used.
The filter media is recharged with a salt solution so life long use isn’t going to cost a fortune (remember for most people this will only need recharging once every year or 2) a couple ££ and you will be sorted.
It will slightly reduce PH and KH, you may want to keep an eye on this for a while. (incase you require high PH) This is far better than any other nitrate reducer that I have seen, once reached capacity it doesn’t leak nitrate back into the water, it keeps what it has removed locked away.
