I have a few quality sponge filters and spare sponges on Ebay.
These are an extremely well made sponge filter used extensively throughout the fish farms of the Far East.This is as good a Filter in my opinion as the market leader
in fact I find them in some ways better, as they are less likely to block in hard water areas.
Close inspection and dismantling shows they are a heavy well engineered quality filter.It is often also an advantage to run 2 smaller filters in a tank than one large filter
as you can alternate filter cleaning so maintaining maximum filter activity.
The advantage these filters give is total simplicity to both use and maintain.
Due to the heavy base they sit easily on the floor of the aquarium. To clean just lift
and give a squeeze in old aquarium water. This preserves the bacteria within the filter.
job done in seconds and no problems with suckers that continually come away from the glass.
