Description: Moina Starter Culture 3 (6.80 posted)

You will receive a minimum of 50 live Moinas.

Two starters 5 (8.80 posted)

Moina is a type of a crustacean from the family Cladocera.
Think about it as a mini version of Daphnia (size 0.4 1mm) Water Flea.

Moina are a popular live food in tropical, marine, and industrial fish keeping. They are often fed to tadpoles or small species of amphibians such as the African Dwarf Frog but also Axolotles and Turtles.

Nutritional values (dry weight):
- Protein: 50% average
- Fat: 20-27% for female adult and 4-6% for juveniles
- Fibre: 5.0%
- Crude Ash: 0.1%
- Rate of absorption 90%!

Feeding, growing and harvesting Moina

- Container (the bigger, the better but a minimum of 10L)
- De-chlorinated water
- Air pump/air line
- Small top light (alternatively, indirect sunlight)
- Food for your cladocerans (I feed ground fish food, spirulina powder, rice flour, green pea powder also yeast can be used)
- Can be kept outdoors too

Water parameters dont matter but pollutants have to be removed by means of water changes as per any fish tank (50% weekly changes in my experience work best if intensive feeding programme is implemented).
Container could be a simple 10L bucket and if its black then the cladocerans will aggregate at the very top and will be easy to spot. Bigger containers give more stable water conditions.
Slow bubbles are recommended to keep the water moving as food is being eaten when suspended in the body of water.
Tiny air bubbles might be mistaken for food and ingested which can lead to death thus air stones are not recommended.
Sponge filter can be used.

Kept indoors in Severn Trent water:
NO3- 0
No2- 0
pH 7.5
KH 80ppm (x 0.056) = 4.5
GH 180ppm (/ 17.1) = 10.5
