  Fish tank

Description: People keep fish tanks to add style to their home or simply because they like fish. According to Feng Shui (the practice of placing objects based on the principles of yin and yang), a fish tank is believed to help increase wealth and bring good luck.

The practice of keeping fish in fish tanks dates back to Ancient Mesopotamia, almost 4,500 years ago. Most early cultures have references to aquariums, for example the Egyptians, Asians, Chinese, Japanese and Romans. The Chinese people first began to breed tiny ornamental fish in small vessels at home and, thus, the goldfish was born.

A cuboid aquarium is known as a fish tank, while a bowl-shaped aquarium is known as fish bowl. Quite a lot of people like the thought of having an attractive fish tank to add interest to their home, but few understand the effort behind setting it up and maintaining the tank and most importantly looking after the fish.

Setting up of a fish tank needs a lot of work. If you want to invest in a fish tank at home, it’s important to understand all the logistics involved. The size, shape and type of fish tank you need must be thought out well in advance of purchasing the fish.

A fish tank that is meant to keep ornamental fish is generally made of glass on all sides and bottom, set into a tough metal frame. It is important to bond the glass wall well, perhaps with a silicone rubber sealant adhesive. The thickness of the glass used for the fish tank will depend upon the space where the tank is to be kept and the number of fish that will be kept in the tank.

The placement of the fish tank in the house also needs to be considered carefully. The fish tank should be away from any direct sunlight that may lead to the growth of algae. The best position for a fish tank is at a right angle from the natural light. It is also important to research how to clean the tank, make aged water, set up the gravel, plant the aquarium and attach the filters. As long as these requirements are met, fish tanks and aquariums can bring a great deal of interest and enjoyment to a home and, as there are so many on the market, you are bound to find one that suits your taste.
