U V filter is actually an ultraviolet sterilizer which protects aquarium inhabitants from potentially harmful microorganisms. Aquarium water pumped through the UV chamber is exposed to this UV light and is irradiated. UV sterilizers can help manage water quality issues due to microorganisms such as bacteria, algae, and parasites.

SO: no bacteria, no virus... less disease... fish feel better!
