Are the tendrils normally wide out and searching for food? or normally keeping inside the polyp base? If they are not fully displayed, this may be a sign of starvation. I have kept sun corals in the past and only managed to keep them alive for a few months - and that was by hand feeding. |

sun corals need to be fed by hand constantly to stand a chance of survival in an aquarium
they are difficult to keep in captivity as you should have told before buying it by the store you bought it from |

and here is an example of one that unless resting, and if it is like this for long periods, is definately unhealthy and probably malnourished.

Sun corals do not like lots of water movement and they do like meaty foods fed directly to them.
Try that and see how it goes |

Sun corals do not like light either is yours under an over hang out of the light.
Each polyp needs individual feeding with artemia a length of clear tubing is good for this.
Put the clear tubing into the tank with one end near the sun coral and the other end near the surface put the artemia in the top and gently blow into the tube so the artemia goes all over the sun coral you should do this twice a day.
If the coral is not opening at all assuming all other factors have been addressed (excess water movement and light and water quality) try enticing it to open by defrosting a few cubes of krill in an egg cube then drain the fluid into a beaker suck this fluid into a syringe and slowly squirt it into the water around the sun coral hopefully this will encourage it to open. You can also use the syringe as a method of feeding artemia you do get more control with a syringe. |
